The purpose of the proposed tutorial Control via Incentives and Information in Socio-technical Systems: A Tutorial is two-fold: 1) gather researchers across the controls community who work on systems and infrastructures which interact with human populations, and 2) educate and inform an audience on classic and state-of-the-art techniques to control the systems behaviors by influencing the user society.

Socio-technical systems are those whose performance is conditioned on the behavior of populations of human users. Examples include transportation networks where human drivers' decisions affect traffic congestion, power and energy systems where user consumption shapes grid demand, and social networks where user opinions may affect the impact of policy decisions. The control and design of these socio technical systems is a focus of current research of many in the control systems research community and constitutes a well-represented interest among the attendees of the American Control Conference.
